65th Independence Anniversary: Nigeria Must Be United, As Key to Survival, Greatness — Akpabio

Ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to embrace unity as the foundation for national survival and progress.

Speaking at a special interdenominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja on Sunday, Akpabio who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized that, unity is not just a theme, but a lifeline for the nation.

The anniversary theme tagged, ‘’The Power of Unity in Building a Great Nation’’, is not just a ceremonial phrase, but the very secret of our survival,” Akpabio stated adding that, “Our founding fathers knew that a house divided against itself cannot stand.”

The event was attended by top government functionaries, members of the National Assembly, military and paramilitary chiefs, as well as religious and traditional leaders.

Addressing the congregation, Akpabio stressed that Nigeria must remain indivisible to fulfill its destiny.

“There should not be anything like North without the South, or West without the East,” he said. “Christians cannot exist without Muslims. The farmer needs the trader. We are interdependent, and we must stand together.”

Reinforcing President Tinubu’s message to the nation, he said, “The principal word is unity. We must love one another and remain together to claim our rightful place in the committee of nations.”

Akpabio also praised the dedication of Nigeria’s armed forces, particularly referencing the enthusiasm of 874 young cadets commissioned at the Nigerian Defence Academy.

“They are ready to serve and sacrifice for our fatherland. That gives me hope that our youth are still passionate about building a stronger, united Nigeria.”

“No storm of this age, however violent, shall sink the ship of state, so long as we remain united and love one another. We shall prevail, he declared.
