The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced the passing of one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists and spiritual fatherq, Evangelist (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, who went to be with the Lord at the age of 80.
In a press release issued by the PFN National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia on Wednesday at a press conference in Uyo, the national body, under the leadership of its President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, expressed mixed feelings of sorrow and deep gratitude for a life devoted to the service of God and the nation.
He described the late Octogenarian as “a trailblazer of the Pentecostal movement in Nigeria” and “a comforting voice of evangelism and revival” saying, Evangelist Ukpai’s decades-long ministry through the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association brought healing, salvation, and unity to millions across denominational lines.
His passing comes at a poignant moment, just ahead of the PFN’s 40th Anniversary celebrations.
In honour of his indelible legacy, the Fellowship has announced that the upcoming PFN 40th Thanksgiving Celebration will be dedicated to his memory, marking it as a national thanksgiving for his immense contribution to the Christian faith in Nigeria and beyond.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Rev. (Dr.) Philomena Uma Ukpai, the entire Ukpai family, and the global Body of Christ,” the statement read.
“May the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, strengthen us all.”
Evangelist Ukpai was widely revered not just as a preacher, but as a spiritual father, whose work bridged denominations and generations.
His legacy of faith, revival crusades, and nation-building leaves a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s religious landscape.
As the PFN bids farewell to one of its pillars, the sentiment is echoed across the nation.
“Evangelist Uma Ukpai fought the good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith. His crown of righteousness awaits him. To God be the glory for a life well spent”, the statement further added.
