In a dramatic twist, the political pendulum in the past few days swung in favour of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as prominent figures in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, defects to APC.
The latest defector, is Senatir Ben Murray Bruce of Bayelsa State, who joined his Gover Duoye Diri who resigned from the PDP with his commissioners, Speaker and Deputy Speaker, as well as the House of Assembly members today.
Governor Mbah of Enugu State had also decamped on Tuesday with the entire party structure in the State into APC, leaving PDP in despare.
Former Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, in his Facebook page, officially announced his decision to join the ruling party, offering a powerful endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Murray-Bruce, known for his outspoken views and strong media presence, issued a passionate statement detailing the reasons for his switch to the APC, describing President Tinubu as a leader “driven by results, not applause,” and praised what he called the “painful but necessary” reforms being implemented across the country.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe,” he said.
According to the former senator, Nigeria under Tinubu is undergoing a quiet but powerful transformation, and pointed to major policy shifts in economic management, national security, infrastructure, foreign policy as signs that the country is on the path to long-term prosperity.
Highlighting the overhaul at the Central Bank, improved security architecture, and the deregulation of the fuel supply chain, Murray-Bruce said the President’s leadership is “restoring the dignity of the Naira” and freeing the economy from decades of distortion.
“These developments are not just concrete and steel; they are the arteries through which growth and opportunity now flow,” he said, referencing the administration’s sweeping infrastructure push from roads and ports to airports and housing schemes.
While acknowledging the hardship many Nigerians are currently facing, Murray-Bruce emphasized that sacrifice is often the price of national rebirth.
“I know it is still a difficult season for many families. But as history teaches, reform is never painless. Yet, it is in these moments of sacrifice that nations are reborn.
“I choose to stand with reform, I choose to stand with the future,” says former senator as he hails Tinubu’s leadership, economy strategy, and national security reforms.
Ending his statement with a resolute declaration of support for Tinubu’s vision, he said “That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress… Mark my words: in the full term of eight years, Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth.”
The move is expected to further boost the APC’s growing political capital as it consolidates influence across strategic southern states and beyond.
Murray-Bruce’s defection marks yet another high-profile endorsement of Tinubu’s leadership style and policy direction, signaling a potential realignment of more political forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
