The city of Uyo and Akwa Ibom community in general have been thrown into mourning as preparations reach a climax for the final rites of passage for a revered matriarch and community leader, Princess (Mrs) Roseline Okon David-Bassey, who passed on at the age of 85.

Fondly remembered as a woman of virtue and quiet strength, the late Princess David-Bassey lived a life marked by resilience, compassion, and an unyielding commitment to the welfare of the vulnerable.

Her funeral ceremonies, expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, will culminate in her interment on Saturday, April 26, 2026, in Uyo.

Paying tribute to his mother, Major-General Ime O. Bassey described her as a devoted mother, grandmother, and mentor whose life exemplified faith, love, sacrifice, and selfless service to humanity.

“Throughout her 85 years, she stood as a pillar of strength, transforming personal adversity into a platform for empowering others,” he said.

He noted that the deceased was widely known for her advocacy for widows, ensuring they received care, dignity, and support within the community. Her home, he added, became a refuge for many, where strangers were embraced as family.

Tributes pouring in ahead of the burial highlight her extraordinary generosity and humanitarian impact, with many recalling how she fed, trained, and uplifted countless individuals who have gone on to make meaningful contributions to society.

Her passing marks the end of an era for a family deeply rooted in service and philanthropy.

Family member, who is also a Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President, Mr. Michael Ukanga Ekpo described the forthcoming burial as not just a moment of grief, but a celebration of a life well lived, one defined by courage in the face of adversity and an enduring legacy of kindness.

As Akwa Ibom prepares to bid her farewell, Princess Roseline Okon David-Bassey is remembered as a shining embodiment of virtue, whose legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire generations.
