
Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District has joined Ikot Ekpene and Uyo Senatorial Districts in endorsing Governor Umo Eno for a second term in office.
The endorsement led by the political leader of the area, Chief Assam Assam (SAN), said the endorsement reflects the people’s confidence in Eno’s leadership and achievements.
Chief Assam (SAN), who presented a communique of the people of the Senatorial District to the Governor on Thursday April 23, 2026 at Government House noted that, although the Governor hails from Uyo Senatorial District, his long-standing ties with Eket through residence and business make him “one of their own.”
“We have implicit confidence in your ability to serve our state till 2031,” Assam declared, and reaffirmed the district’s commitment to his re-election.
The district also unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pledged support for the re-election of Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, in 2027.
Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, commended Governor Eno’s inclusive and impactful leadership, describing it as the driving force behind the endorsement.
She also formally presented Ambassador Assam as the new Political Leader of the district, alongside Ikpoto Okon Osung as Deputy Leader and Engr. Uwem Okoko as Secretary.
In separate remarks, key stakeholders including Dr. Pat Ifon, Ikpoto Okon Osung, and former Deputy Governor, Obong Nsima Ekere, reaffirmed their trust in the Governor and pledged support for his administration to complete two uninterrupted terms.
Also speaking, the Political Leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob, lauded the Eket stakeholders for their solidarity with the Governor, describing the endorsement as a boost for unity across the State.
Responding, Governor Eno expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, describing the endorsement as a mandate to sustain ongoing development.
He credited the prevailing peace and unity in the State to collective political alignment, particularly the movement to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, noting that projects are being executed across all local government areas.
He specifically cited the construction of the Eastern Obolo road to the council secretariat and Odio road in Eket as key interventions.
Governor Eno urged citizens to maintain peace and unity, especially as political activities intensify ahead of party primaries, stressing the need for maturity and sportsmanship.
The event attracted top stakeholders including APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo; Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson; Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien; Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem; members of the National and State Assemblies; and local government chairmen from the district, among others.
