In a bold move to combat malaria and mark the 2026 World Malaria Day, Ibom Air has donated over 50,000 doses of anti-malaria medications to the State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP) under the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health.

The donation, made through the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, FAMPact (Fight Against Malaria in Pregnant Women and Children Today), includes 30,000 doses of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine, 10,000 doses of Lokmal DT, and 10,000 doses of Paracetamol DT.

The items were formally presented on April 24, 2026, by the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr. George Uriesi, and his management team.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, lauded the airline’s sustained commitment to public health, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.

This marks the third consecutive year Ibom Air has supported malaria control efforts in the state, reinforcing its dedication to healthcare as a key pillar of its CSR agenda.

Aligned with this year’s World Malaria Day theme, “Driven to end malaria, Now we can, Now we must,” the initiative underscores the urgent need to protect vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women and children under five, who remain most at risk.

As part of activities to deepen awareness, Ibom Air held a “Road Walk Against Malaria” scheduled for today Saturday April 25, 2026 in Uyo. The event commenced at 6:00 a.m. starting from Ibom Plaza and featured health education, public sensitization, and fitness sessions.

Renowned medical influencer, Aproko Doctor, Dr. Chinonso Egemba Fidelis, was special guest to amplify the advocacy efforts and promote preventive measures.

Speaking on the initiative, the airline’s Group Manager for Corporate Services, Mrs. Imelda Aba, emphasized the company’s broader responsibility to society.

“At Ibom Air, we go beyond transporting passengers. Through FAMPact, we are investing in the health and well-being of our communities. Malaria is preventable, and everyone has a role to play in ending it,” she said.

Also speaking, the Programme Manager of SMEP, Dr. Ukeme John, commended the airline for its consistent support, noting that the donation would significantly boost ongoing efforts to reduce malaria prevalence in the state.

Launched in 2024, FAMPact has delivered insecticide-treated nets, medications, and educational materials to communities in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and continues to expand its reach annually.

Ibom Air, wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, reaffirmed its commitment to partnering stakeholders and urged residents to participate actively in the awareness walk as part of collective efforts to eradicate malaria.
