UYO – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to hold what it described as “2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions” on Monday, May 11, 2026, in Abuja, setting the stage for key decisions that will shape the nation’s tertiary education entry points for the 2026/2027 academic session.
This is contained in a statement issued by the office of JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin at the weekend stating that, the meeting will take place at the Body of Benchers Auditorium, Plot 688, Institute and Research District, FCC Phase III, Jabi, Abuja.
The statement disclosed that the annual policy meeting considered the apex decision-making forum on admissions will unveil major policy directions, including minimum admissible scores for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as well as guidelines for admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
It added that the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is expected to declare the meeting open and provide strategic direction for stakeholders.
Described as a critical gathering, the policy meeting will bring together Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, Registrars, and admission officers from tertiary institutions across the country.
Representatives of key regulatory agencies, including the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), are also expected to participate.
Other stakeholders slated to deliver goodwill messages include the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.
The statement further noted that the meeting would formally set the tone for the 2026/2027 admission exercise, while reinforcing the need for strict compliance with established admission guidelines by all institutions.
Also scheduled as part of the event is the 6th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M), an initiative designed to promote transparency, reward compliance with admission policies, and enhance standards in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
In a related remark, the Office of the Akwa Ibom State JAMB Chief External Examiner and Vice Chancellor of FUTIA reaffirmed the importance of the policy meeting, describing it as pivotal to sustaining credibility, fairness, and excellence in the nation’s admission process.
The office urged all stakeholders to actively participate and adhere strictly to resolutions reached at the meeting to ensure a seamless and merit-driven admission exercise.
