
ITU – A prominent media strategist and cultural programme architect, Dr. Ani Ekpe Antia, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Itu State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, pledging a people-focused agenda anchored on unity, development and inclusive governance.
Dr. Antia, who is running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), unveiled his candidacy under the campaign slogan “Support,” promising to bring renewed hope and progressive leadership to the people of Itu.
His declaration has attracted wide backing from political, social and grassroots movements, including the “Renewed Hope” campaign and the “ITU Together” initiative, both of which underscore a collective push for transformation in the constituency.
Speaking on his vision, Dr. Antia emphasized his commitment to the “ARISE” agenda of the Akwa Ibom State Government, a policy framework designed to stimulate economic growth, improve social welfare and expand infrastructure.
He reaffirmed this alignment by prominently displaying the ARISE insignia during his declaration.
“The future of Itu lies in our collective resolve to build together,” he said, adding that his campaign would prioritize stakeholder engagement and participatory governance.

Beyond politics, Dr. Antia brings over two decades of experience in media production, cultural programming and development communications.
He is widely recognized for his pivotal contributions to the Calabar Carnival, where he played a strategic role in shaping its programming and production for 16 years, helping elevate it to international prominence.
His professional portfolio also includes collaborations with global development organizations such as; UNICEF, World Bank and Society for Family Health, producing impactful media campaigns focused on public health and social change.
Academically, Dr. Antia holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Calabar, alongside professional training in film production from the New York Film Academy and a Johannesburg-based film institution.
He was recently awarded a Ph.D. in Sociology of Peace by the United Nations Peace and Governance Research Institution.
A member of the royal Antia family of Oku Iboku in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, he has also been actively involved in community development initiatives, including fisheries value-chain projects aimed at boosting local economies and reducing post-harvest losses.
Political observers say his entry into the race introduces a blend of creative industry expertise and grassroots engagement, potentially reshaping the dynamics of the Itu constituency contest ahead of the next general elections in 2027.
