Rivers State Sole Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas has requested more time from the National Assembly’s Ad-hoc Committee to prepare a detailed briefing on the state’s situation, citing the fragile security and political environment under the current state of emergency.
Ibas acknowledged the committee’s role in upholding democratic integrity and expressed regret over his previous absence, attributing it to urgent governance demands. He emphasized the challenges of managing the state under emergency rule and reiterated his respect for the National Assembly’s oversight responsibilities.
While describing the state as “relatively calm,” Ibas cautioned that the situation remains fragile and requires careful handling. He requested the committee’s understanding to allow more time for a comprehensive report, stressing the importance of accuracy and clarity.
Ibas reaffirmed his commitment to cooperating with the committee and thanked the lawmakers and the media for their roles. The committee will deliberate on his request and announce its next steps regarding oversight of Rivers State’s transitional governance.
