Wike’s ally appointed Bayelsa PDP chairperson amidst feud with Diri

George Turnah, an ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has been appointed chairperson of the caretaker committee to run the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State. The PDP South South Zonal Working Committee made this announcement in a statement, citing the dissolution of the state working committee due to gross misconduct.

The committee also appointed a new caretaker committee for Edo State. According to the statement, these decisions aim to strengthen the party’s foundation and ensure effective leadership in both states.

Turnah, the new caretaker committee chairperson in Bayelsa, is the party’s south-south zonal secretary and a former executive assistant to Governor Douye Diri. He had a fallout with Diri and switched loyalty to Wike. Turnah’s appointment highlights Wike’s influence within the PDP, despite Governor Diri’s previous claims that Turnah wasn’t a member of the party in Bayelsa and opposition to a planned rally for Wike in the state.
