Former PDP VP Candidate Okowa, Delta Deputy Governor, Assembly Speaker, Others Allegedly Follow Gov. Oborevwori In Dumping PDP For APC

key figures in Delta State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been alledged to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, current Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, and multiple House of Representatives members. The PDP state chairman and all 25 local government chairpersons are also reported to have joined the APC.

This mass defection follows an earlier report that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had secretly defected to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to sources, the governor convened a closed-door meeting with local government council chairmen, state assembly members, and PDP stakeholders, where he formally announced his decision to leave the PDP for the APC.

The governor is reportedly preparing to dissolve his cabinet to accommodate new appointments, including APC members, with a planned 60/40 split in favor of PDP members. The Delta State Commissioner for Information confirmed the governor’s defection and the collective decision of Delta PDP leaders and stakeholders to join the APC.
