ABUJA- President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
A statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, on May 11, 2026 said, the appointment is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework and intelligence coordination.
The message conveyed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, was issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects Tinubu administration’s resolve to reinforce internal security operations, deepen intelligence-driven responses, and improve inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security challenges across the country.
Major General Fadewa, a highly decorated retired military officer, brings over three decades of experience in military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, national security strategy, and international security diplomacy.
During his service as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between 2015 and 2021, he was instrumental in developing Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination system.
One of his landmark achievements was the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA, an integrated intelligence platform designed to enhance cooperation among key security and intelligence agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.
The Presidency noted that the initiative significantly improved national threat assessment mechanisms and strategic response coordination.
Following his retirement from active military service, Fadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, where he continued to contribute to national security discourse through research and policy recommendations on policing, civil-security relations, and security sector reforms.
He is also the author of the widely acclaimed monograph, “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which provides practical solutions for enhancing cooperation between civil authorities and security agencies.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired General’s vast experience and strategic expertise would further strengthen the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria.
The President also charged him to deploy his wealth of experience, professionalism, and strategic insight in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda through effective homeland security coordination and proactive risk management initiatives.
