UYO – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of two suspects linked to vehicle theft and the unlawful possession of stolen property.

The operation, which was driven by credible intelligence, led to the arrest of 27-year-old Isaac Akpan of Akwebom Village in Obot Akara Local Government Area.

According to the Police, investigations revealed that Akpan allegedly stole a white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck loaded with bags of sachet water from a pure water factory where he worked in Agbor South, Delta State.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that after selling the entire consignment of sachet water, he used the proceeds to purchase fuel and drove the stolen vehicle to Akwa Ibom State.
He further disclosed that he sold the vehicle to another individual within the state.

Following the confession, police operatives intensified investigations, which led to the arrest of 45-year-old Aloysius Aniekan of Agric Road, Ikot Ekpene.

Aniekan was allegedly found in possession of the stolen vehicle and was said to have re-registered it with a different registration number in an attempt to conceal its identity.

The stolen white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck was subsequently recovered and taken into police custody as exhibit.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property across the state.

He assured residents that investigations are ongoing and that all persons connected to the criminal act would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Police Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that effective community partnership remains essential in the fight against crime and the promotion of public safety.
