The West African Examinations Council has given fresh hope to private candidates as it extends registration for the 2026 WASSCE for Private Candidates, Second Series to Thursday, August 28.

The council announced the extension on Friday, urging students who are yet to register to take advantage of the new deadline.

In a statement, WAEC confirmed that the examination will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test, CBT, and that the registration fee remains ₦37,000.

Prospective candidates are advised to visit any accredited WAEC registration center or the WAEC portal to complete their registration before the new deadline, the council said.

The extension comes amid complaints from some candidates about delays in raising registration funds and challenges with CBT centers in some states.

The 2026 WAEC GCE Second Series is expected to hold later in the year, with results valid for university admission and other certifications.
