In a major shakeup within its ranks, The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the Akwa Ibom State Executive Committee, citing internal restructuring efforts in line with the party’s constitution.

The move, came as a surprise to many for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which hitherto prude itself as a religion suddenly fell into the abyss with the NWC’s decisive or weeping effort to reform PDP in the State.

The decision was taken during the NWC’s meeting held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in accordance with the powers conferred on the committee under the amended 2017 PDP Constitution.

Following the dissolution, the NWC approved the immediate constitution of a 31-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state.

The committee, chaired by Iwat Umoren, is expected to serve for an initial period of three months or more pending the election of a new executive.

Other key members of the committee include Harrison Ekpo as Deputy Chairman, Borono Bassey as Secretary, Barr. Ewa Okpo as Publicity Secretary, and Emman Mbong as Organizing Secretary.

The committee also comprises youth, women, and legal representatives, alongside prominent party stakeholders from across the state.

The full list reflects a broad spectrum of party loyalists, aimed at unifying factions and strengthening the PDP’s position ahead of upcoming political activities in the state.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, who signed the statement, urged all party leaders, stakeholders, and members in Akwa Ibom State to remain united and work collectively for the progress and stability of the party.

This development marks a significant moment in the PDP’s strategic recalibration in Akwa Ibom, a state long considered one of its strongholds.
