Akwa Ibom Police Command has dismantled a notorious three-man armed robbery syndicate terrorizing residents of Uyo metropolis, recovering firearms and other dangerous weapons in the process.
The breakthrough followed a report made on August 12, 2025, by a 32 year-old woman, who was robbed at gunpoint along Believers Assembly Road by Udo-Udoma Avenue, while on her morning walk.
The suspects, riding a black motorcycle, threatened her with a locally-made pistol and dispossessed her of an iPhone 12 Pro valued at ₦650,000.
Investigations later revealed that the syndicate was behind at least, five other robberies that same day and had been carrying out similar operations during the early hours across the city.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested one Ubong Michael Patrick 27, of Ikpa Ibiono, Ibiono Ibom LGA, who upon interrogation confessed and led officers to two accomplices; Ibrahim Kanu 20, from Gorore, Adamawa State and Nazipi Dahiru 25, from Gombe State.
Both men reside in the Nassarawa community, Itam in Itu LGA. Items recovered include; one black operational motorcycle, one locally made pistol and one long dagger knife.
Preliminary investigations by the Police showed that, the stolen phones were being packaged and transported to Kano State for resale to unsuspecting buyers.
A statement by the Police Spokesperson, DSP Timfon John said, efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen items, reassuring the residents of continued safety.
The Police Command however, urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
