AK-RUWATSAN GM, Wife Honoured as UN-POLAC Peace Ambassadors

The General Manager of Akwa Ibom State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (AK-RUWATSAN), Mr. Saviour Peter Udo, has been formally inaugurated as an Ambassador for Peace by the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC).

The investiture ceremony, which took place in Uyo on Friday December 19, 2025, was performed by the Director-General of UN-POLAC, Prof. Halo Eton.

Mr. Udo, a graduate of Geology from the University of Calabar, Cross River State, is a development and environmental expert widely known for his passion for environmental sustainability, inclusivity, gender equality and equity.

He was earlier conferred with the title of Ambassador for Peace by UN-POLAC in November 2019, while the formal inauguration was conducted at the colourful ceremony last weekend.

In the same vein, his wife, Mrs. Udua-Abasi, a seasoned media professional, was honoured with the award of Justice for Peace (JP) by UN-POLAC.

Mrs. Udo, works with the African Independent Television (AIT) as the Senior Correspondent for Akwa Ibom. A graduate of Mass Communication from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, holds a Diploma in Television Journalism from the NTA College, Jos, and is an active Rotarian.

The investiture coincided with the couple’s 10th wedding anniversary celebration and the end-of-year get-together organised by Camp Tira, adding glamour and significance to the occasion.

In his remarks, Mr. Udo expressed deep appreciation to UN-POLAC for the recognition, describing the honour as a call to greater service.

He pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him and his wife, stressing that peace remains fundamental to the survival of the world.

“There can be no world without those whom God has designated for the great work of peace,” he said.

Both award recipients thanked UN-POLAC for the honour and appreciated guests who joined them in celebrating a decade of marital bliss.

While decorating the honourees, Prof. Halo Eton noted that the couple had been living out the ideals of peace and service long before their recognition, adding that the award was a testament that their selfless efforts had not gone unnoticed.

He explained that UN-POLAC Peace Ambassadors are appointed by the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre, an organisation affiliated with the United Nations and UNESCO, to support peace, promote positive living, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UNESCO Culture of Peace Programme.

He charged them to help the organisation in the promotion of world peace, harmony, ethical behaviour, cooperation, participate in conflict resolution, encourage dialogue, and foster inter-religious and ethnic coexistence amongst Nigerians.

They were also enjoined to serve as role models in championing humanitarian values, social harmony, and sustainable development, particularly goals related to peace, justice and strong institutions.

The ceremony featured goodwill messages from colleagues, friends and well-wishers, who prayed for divine guidance and success for the couple in their new roles as Ambassador for Peace and Justice for Peace.
