Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned a well-equipped ultra-modern Primary Health Centre for the people of Nduo Eduo in Eket Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to grassroots healthcare delivery.
Eno, also used the occasion to warn organisations and unions fanning the embers of disunity and under development to desist from their threats to allow development its thoroughfare.
He emphasized that, government will not fail in its responsibility to take development to the nooks and crannies of the state, but issued his zero tolerance against groups or unions threatening the peace of the state.
The Governor also appealed to the people of Eket to maintain peace and avoid disruptions along the route of the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, particularly around the Stubb’s Creek axis.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Monday, December 29, 2025, saw the Governor urge community leaders and stakeholders to take collective responsibility for the protection and proper use of the facility.
“This facility belongs to you and your families. Come together to protect it, patronize it and ensure it is not vandalized because of negligence or lack of care,” the Governor charged.
Governor Eno explained that the health centre was executed under his One Project Per Local Government initiative, fulfilling an electioneering promise he made to the late Elder Ekwo and the people of Nduo Eduo.
He commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, and all those involved in the project for their dedication and timely delivery.
However, the Governor expressed displeasure over the failure of some local government areas to complete their projects under the initiative, despite two and a half years into his administration.
He disclosed that nine local government areas were yet to complete their assigned projects and directed that the contracts be terminated with immediate effect, and further warned contractors who collect mobilization fees but fail to deliver according to specifications, only to later demand cost variations, that they would be held accountable.
“If after financial audits you are found wanting, you and your guarantors will be brought to book to account for public funds released to you,” Governor Eno cautioned.
Presenting an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, applauded Governor Eno for cutting short his Christmas break to commission a people-oriented project. He described the health centre as a “unique Christmas gift” to the people of Eket.
According to him, the facility is fully equipped with modern medical infrastructure, including a resuscitation machine, a functional laboratory with an anathology analyser, accident and emergency unit, immunization room, nutrition centre, vaccine storage, staff quarters, and solar-powered energy system noting, the centre is fully staffed to provide quality healthcare services.
Dr. John also urged political leaders and residents to leverage the Governor’s massive investments in the health sector, particularly the ARISE Health Insurance Scheme, while appealing to the Eket Local Government Chairman to ensure adequate security for the facility.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Akaninyene Tommy, thanked Governor Eno for consistently delivering impactful projects that directly benefit the grassroots.
