Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from his position with immediate effect, citing health concerns as the reason. Ganduje, who took over as APC National Chairman in August 2023, had a tenure marked by persistent controversies, legal disputes, and internal resistance.
Ganduje’s resignation comes after a tumultuous period in the party, with allegations of financial impropriety and internal friction. Party aspirants, especially in the Federal Capital Territory, had raised concerns about exorbitant fees required to secure party tickets under his leadership. The party’s internal conflicts and legal battles had created an uncertain environment, with some party members calling for his removal.
In April 2024, a Kano State High Court issued an ex parte order restraining Ganduje from acting as a party member, further adding to the tension surrounding his position. Although a Federal High Court in Abuja struck out a suit seeking his removal, the uncertainty surrounding his leadership continued to grow.
The APC has not issued an official statement regarding Ganduje’s resignation, fueling speculation about potential successors and the party’s direction ahead of upcoming political events. As the party navigates this leadership vacuum, stakeholders and observers are closely watching to see how the APC will move forward after a tenure marked by controversy and internal strife.
