UYO – The Centre for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has commended the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) for conducting a transparent, credible and orderly Financial Biding exercise for the 2026 TETFund Annual Intervention.

The exercise, which took place on July 21, 2026, at the university, attracted key management officials, stakeholders and representatives of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), with CHRAN monitoring the process as part of its mandate to promote transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

CHRAN’s Secretary for Research and Documentation, Comrade Etimbuk Ekpenyong, represented the organization at the event and observed the proceedings.

According to a statement jointly signed by CHRAN Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, and Comrade Ekpenyong, the bid opening was conducted in an open and orderly manner, in strict compliance with procurement guidelines and due process requirements.

The rights group noted that bid documents were publicly opened before participants, reflecting FUTIA’s commitment to transparency, institutional integrity and accountability in the utilization of intervention funds.

Among dignitaries present at the exercise were the Vice Chancellor of FUTIA, Prof. Leo Daniel; the Registrar, represented by Mr. Michael Ejoh; the Bursar, Dr. Mbobo Erasmus; other principal officers and staff of the institution, as well as the TETFund representative, Mrs. Dunmoye Folashade.

CHRAN described the exercise as a model for public institutions entrusted with intervention funds, stressing that transparency in procurement processes remains critical to ensuring value for money and public confidence in government-funded projects.

The organization urged FUTIA to sustain the standard of openness through subsequent stages of the procurement cycle, including bid evaluation, contract award, project implementation and monitoring.

It also called on other tertiary institutions and beneficiaries of TETFund interventions across the country to emulate FUTIA’s example by embracing transparent procurement practices.

CHRAN reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the implementation of the intervention projects to ensure that public funds are judiciously utilized for their intended purposes, adding that it would continue to engage constructively with public institutions in promoting accountability and good governance.
