Akwa Ibom State recorded another significant milestone in its aviation sector as the Federal Government has approved full international status for the Victor Attah International Airport, paving the way for the resumption of international flights in the first quarter of 2026.

The approval was secured today (Thursday) November 27, 2025 during a high-level meeting between Governor Umo Eno and the Minister of Aviatio and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

With this endorsement, Victor Attah International Airport now joins the ranks of Nigerian airports authorised for international traffic.

The upgrade opens vast opportunities for enhanced global connectivity, expansion of tourism, increased foreign investment, and accelerated business growth.

The airport is now cleared to receive and process international airlines, operate cross-border flights, and function as a direct gateway linking Akwa Ibom State to destinations across Africa and beyond.

Governor Eno’s sustained engagement and strategic leadership were instrumental in securing this breakthrough.

This development further strengthens Akwa Ibom’s position as an emerging aviation hub and, underscores the administration’s commitment to broadening opportunities for citizens, investors and visitors.
