Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has directed security agencies to launch coordinated operations against suspected armed herdsmen camps concealed within forested areas across Apa, Otukpo, Gwer-West, and adjoining communities.

The directive comes in response to a renewed wave of deadly attacks that have rocked parts of the state, leaving several residents dead and communities in fear.

Among the affected areas are Edikwu-Ankpali, Ikobi, and Adija in Apa Local Government Area, as well as Upu village in Otukpo LGA.

Describing the situation as both alarming and increasingly complex, Governor Alia noted that the attackers have been exploiting dense forest terrains as strategic hideouts for planning and executing assaults on vulnerable rural settlements.

He emphasized that the operation is aimed at dismantling these criminal enclaves, disrupting their movement routes, and cutting off logistical support systems that enable coordinated attacks.

The governor stressed that the move reflects the government’s urgency in tackling rising insecurity, safeguarding lives and property, and restoring normalcy in troubled communities.

He also underscored the need for enhanced synergy between state and federal security forces to achieve lasting peace.

If effectively executed, the offensive is expected to reclaim forest territories from criminal elements, boost intelligence gathering, and rebuild public confidence in security efforts across the state.

The latest directive signals a tougher stance by the Benue State Government as it intensifies efforts to stem the tide of violence and protect its citizens from persistent attacks.
