Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the immediate issuance of appointment letters to 4,000 successful applicants in the recently concluded civil service recruitment exercise in the state.
The Governor also approved the recruitment of an additional 2,000 teachers by the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, to complement the model primary schools constructed across the state.
Governor Eno gave the directives on Friday, September 18, 2026, when he received the final report of the civil service recruitment exercise in his office at Government House, Uyo. The report was presented by the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mrs Ekerebong Umoh, who led the recruitment team.
According to the Governor, the Chairman of the Commission, Mrs Umoh, should commence the issuance of appointment letters without further delay to enable the new workers to resume duties. He commended the recruitment team for conducting a transparent and credible exercise that gave every applicant a level playing field.
The team included the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mrs Umoh, the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr Frank Ekpenyong, and the Head of Service, Mrs Elsie Peters.
Governor Eno said he was particularly happy that the process was fair and free from political interference, noting that the successful candidates earned their places on merit. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing equal opportunity for every Akwa Ibomite willing to serve the state in any capacity.
The Governor narrated how a friend had contacted him to help secure a job for his son, but he advised the friend to allow his son to go through the recruitment process, which the young man eventually passed successfully. He said such testimonies underscore the integrity of the exercise and the need to build a system where merit is rewarded over connections.
“Today is one day I feel very happy to serve the State. We can say truthfully that we had a transparent recruitment exercise, and the people coming in will value the job because they know they worked hard to come into the service,” Governor Eno stated.
The Governor expressed hope that posterity would judge his administration kindly for insisting on due process and fairness in governance.
“I only hope and trust God that when we finish our tour of duty, posterity will be kind to us. Posterity will be able to see what we actually wanted to achieve, that for once we can have an Akwa Ibom State where everybody can be somebody,” he added.
Earlier in her presentation, the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mrs Ekerebong Umoh, thanked Governor Eno for providing jobs for thousands of unemployed youths through a transparent process. She described the recruitment exercise as comprehensive and demanding, given the large number of applicants that showed interest.
According to her, over 36,000 candidates registered on the recruitment portal, out of which only 12,000 qualified for the first round of interviews. She explained that candidates who scored 50 percent and above in the Computer-Based Test, CBT, were shortlisted for the oral interview, which led to the final selection of 4,000 successful applicants.
Mrs Umoh assured that all necessary documentation has been completed to ensure a smooth issuance of appointment letters to the successful candidates in the coming days.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Head of Service, Mrs Elsie Peters, Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson, and other top government officials.
