UYO – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, will on Thursday, August 6, 2026, deliver the prestigious Centenary Lecture of the Yoruba Tennis Club as part of activities commemorating the Club’s 100th anniversary.
The lecture, themed “Democracy and the Imperative of Good Governance: Renewing Hope in Challenging Times,” is scheduled to hold at the Greetings Hall of the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The landmark event is being organised under the distinguished patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who serves as Patron of the Club; Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Vice Patron of the Club; and Alhaji Dr. Femi Okunnu (SAN), Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Yoruba Tennis Club.
As Guest Speaker, Governor Eno is expected to share insights on the role of democratic leadership and good governance in tackling contemporary national challenges.
He will also showcase the impact of the Akwa Ibom State Government’s ARISE Agenda in strengthening democratic institutions, driving sustainable development, and delivering people-oriented governance.
The Centenary Lecture is one of the flagship events marking the Club’s 100 years of promoting excellence, leadership, fellowship, tradition, and service to society.
It is expected to attract prominent figures from government, business, academia, the diplomatic corps, and civil society who will deliberate on the future of democracy and nation-building in Nigeria.
Chairman of the Yoruba Tennis Club and the Centenary Planning Committee, Engr. Olawunmi Gasper, said Governor Eno was selected as Guest Speaker in recognition of his administration’s developmental strides and transformational leadership over the past three years.
According to him, the governor’s achievements and governance model provide valuable lessons that deserve wider national attention. He described the lecture as a unique platform for meaningful engagement on leadership, development, and the future of Nigeria’s democracy.
The Akwa Ibom State Government expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Yoruba Tennis Club for the honour extended to Governor Eno, describing the invitation as a reflection of growing national recognition of his administration’s commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and democratic values.
The government also called on Akwa Ibom indigenes, friends, associates, and well-wishers, especially those residing in Lagos and neighbouring areas, to participate in the historic event.
It further congratulated the Yoruba Tennis Club on attaining the remarkable milestone of 100 years, and wished the institution continued success as it embarks on its second century of promoting excellence, unity, and leadership.
