UYO – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Miss Mary Etim, whose heartfelt appreciation for the state’s newly approved N80,000 monthly allowance to corps members has attracted widespread attention on social media.

Mary Etim, an Akwa Ibom indigene serving in Abuja, went viral after posting a video expressing gratitude to the Governor for fulfilling his promise of paying the allowance, including outstanding arrears owed to beneficiaries.

Receiving the corps member at Government House, Uyo on Tuesday, Governor Eno described her gesture as a remarkable demonstration of gratitude and sincerity, saying her reaction had become an inspiring example of appreciation.

The Governor noted that it was encouraging to see beneficiaries publicly acknowledge government interventions, stressing that such expressions of gratitude motivate leaders to do more for the people.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development and welfare, Governor Eno explained that the N80,000 monthly allowance is being paid to Akwa Ibom indigenes serving in various states across Nigeria, as well as non-indigenes posted to serve in Akwa Ibom.

He said the initiative was designed to complement the Federal Government’s support to corps members by easing the burden of transportation, feeding and other essential expenses during the mandatory one-year national service.

Governor Eno assured that his administration would continue to prioritise programmes and policies aimed at empowering young people and creating opportunities that would enhance their future.

Responding, Mary Etim expressed profound appreciation to the Governor for keeping his promise to corps members, describing him as a compassionate and dependable leader, whose commitment to youth welfare has positively impacted the lives of many serving graduates.
