UYO – Ibom Air has recorded a major milestone in its expansion drive with the successful operation of its first scheduled international flight on the Uyo–Accra–Uyo route.

This upgrade now officially elevates the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, to the status of an international gateway for passengers travelling into and out of the country.

The landmark flight, which took place on Sunday, June 28, 2026, also achieved seamless passenger connectivity, enabling travellers to transit between Abuja and Accra through Uyo without disruption.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr. George Uriesi, described the commencement of international operations from Uyo as a significant breakthrough for the airline and Nigeria’s aviation industry.

According to him, the successful transit of passengers between Abuja and Accra via Uyo underscores the strategic importance of the state’s newly developed international terminal.

He noted that the modern facility offers passengers a world-class travel experience in an environment that promotes comfort, dignity and efficiency, adding that the development has redefined air travel within the country.

Uriesi expressed appreciation to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his visionary leadership and sustained investment in the state’s aviation sector, which, he said, made the international service possible.

According to the Group Manager, Marketing and Communications, Aniekan Essienette, Ibom Air will operate the Uyo–Accra service twice weekly on Sundays and Thursdays, providing travellers from Abuja and neighbouring states with convenient access to Ghana through Uyo.

She said, the airline’s new route forms part of Ibom Air’s broader strategy to strengthen regional connectivity across West Africa, improve passenger experience, and reinforce Akwa Ibom State’s position as an emerging aviation hub on the continent.

Essienette added that, passengers seeking flight schedules, bookings and other services can obtain information through the airline’s official platforms, noting that, media enquiries would continue to be handled by its Corporate Communications Department.
