INEC Denies Releasing 2027 Election Timetable, Calls Reports Fake

Abuja – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports claiming it released a timetable for the 2027 general election, calling the information “false and misleading”.

In a statement, INEC said it operates within the law and hasn’t issued any schedule, citing Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022. The commission will release the official timetable in due course through verified channels.

“Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC,” the statement read. The public and media are urged to disregard fake reports and rely on INEC’s official platforms.

The statement was signed by Adedayo Oketola, CPS/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, on January 2, 2026.
