Inspector General of Police orders withdrawal of mobile police officers from VIPs nationwide

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has directed the immediate withdrawal of Police Mobile Force personnel from providing security services to private individuals across Nigeria. This directive was announced during a conference with PMF squadron commanders at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized the need for the PMF to focus on its core mandate of responding to riots, emergencies, and violent threats. He criticized the current deployment of PMF operatives for private use, stating that it compromises the force’s operational effectiveness and undermines its capacity to fulfill primary responsibilities.

To boost professionalism and accountability, the police chief introduced measures including mandatory quarterly training on ethics and professionalism, and requiring PMF squadrons to maintain fully equipped and combat-ready units. The IGP warned that commanders will be held accountable for their personnel’s conduct and encouraged proactive approaches through inspections, training, and mentorship.

The reforms aim to restore discipline, enhance respect for human rights, and raise the unit’s operational standards to international best practices.
