Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has confirmed that 207 people died in the recent flooding tragedy in Mokwa Local Government Area, with 700 still missing and over 3,000 displaced. The governor made this disclosure when a former Chief Security Officer to the late military dictator, Gen Sani Abacha, paid a condolence visit to the state.
According to the governor, the flooding has caused extensive damage, with 400 houses damaged and 283 houses and 50 shops destroyed. Bago expressed gratitude to individuals and corporate organizations for their donations and contributions, noting that the incident was a national disaster due to the spread of victims across various ethnicities in the country.
The governor stated that more than 50% of the Mokwa flood victims were non-indigenes. He assured that the government was working with professional organizations to determine the root cause of the flood.
A delegation from Veritas University, led by Al-Mustapha, visited the state to donate relief materials and register their condolences over the devastating flood incident. Al-Mustapha emphasized the need for prayers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
