UYO – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has continued to record breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state.

This time, personnel of the Command has arrested suspected armed robbers, recovering illegal firearms, and apprehending a suspect linked to cultism and other violent offences.

According to the statement issued by the Command ‘s Spokesperson, DSP Timfon John and made available to the media, the operations were carried out in separate incidents, underscoring the Command’s intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks and safeguard lives and property.

In one of the operations, police operatives acting on a duly obtained search warrant stormed the residence of a 69-year-old suspect, Mr. Isidore Udousoro, at Ikot Ayankana Village in Abak Local Government Area on June 15, 2026, at about 7:15 a.m.

According to the Police, Udousoro is under investigation over allegations bordering on cultism, assault, malicious damage, and threats to life.

During the search, officers recovered a locally made pistol and a machete allegedly concealed within the premises.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits, while investigators continue efforts to determine the extent of his involvement and possible connections to other criminal activities within the area.

Police authorities said he would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.

In another operation, operatives conducting routine stop-and-search duties around Etinan Circus on June 11, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., intercepted two suspected armed robbers riding an unregistered red-coloured QLINK motorcycle.

The suspects, identified as Thankgod Daniel, 21, and Ekom Effiong, 44, both natives of Ukanafun Local Government Area, reportedly attempted to flee upon sighting the police patrol team but, ran out of luck as their actions aroused suspicion, prompting officers to pursue and arrest them.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and an Android mobile phone.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to robbing a male victim of the motorcycle at Afaha Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
They further admitted belonging to a four-man armed robbery syndicate, revealing that three members of the gang were armed during the operation.

Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members and uncover other crimes linked to the syndicate.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to stamp out criminality, combat cultism, and curb the proliferation of illegal firearms across the state.

He assured residents that intelligence-led policing, strategic patrols, stop-and-search operations, and targeted raids on criminal hideouts would be sustained.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies, stressing that community partnership remains vital in winning the fight against crime.
