The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Chris Ekong, has outlined key achievements recorded by his administration in its first 100 days in office, describing the period as a foundation for a comprehensive transformation of the institution.

In a statement to commemorate the milestone, Prof. Ekong said his administration has focused on three cardinal pillars of effective administration, efficient service delivery and massive infrastructural renewal to reposition the university for global competitiveness.

He noted that his administration has set up strategic committees for effective administration and service delivery, a move aimed at decentralising decision making, promoting transparency and ensuring that every unit of the university is responsive to the needs of students and staff.

On academic service delivery, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that his administration has processed over 1,500 transcripts since June 2026 with at least 280 transcripts delivered weekly, a feat he said has significantly reduced the backlog and frustration previously experienced by graduates seeking their academic records.

He added that the university’s admission processes have been decentralized to make it more efficient, transparent and faster, thereby reducing delays and ensuring that prospective students get timely information on their admission status.

On infrastructure and academic support, he disclosed the purchase of 500 computer sets for Computer-Based Tests to expand the university’s CBT centre capacity, ease the conduct of examinations and improve the integrity of the assessment process.

Prof. Ekong further listed the ongoing construction of the Pharmacy building, the renovation of the College of Health Sciences hostel and the over 1,000-capacity NDDC hostel to improve the living conditions of students and provide a more conducive environment for learning.

He also disclosed the installation of a solar power system at the old Senate Chamber to ensure uninterrupted power supply for administrative activities, as well as the creation of an access road within the university to Ikpa River to open up the university’s land assets and improve internal connectivity.

In the area of agriculture and Internally Generated Revenue, the Vice-Chancellor listed the securing of a N1 billion TETFund investment in agriculture, a strategic intervention that will boost research, teaching and commercial agriculture in the institution.

He said the university has commenced commercial agriculture on 100 hectares of university land and flagged off the Federal Government’s Cassava Bio-Ethanol Pilot Project on 11 hectares, initiatives that are expected to enhance food security, generate revenue and provide practical training for students in the Faculty of Agriculture.

The administration, according to him, has also established a block factory for the university to support its infrastructural projects with cheaper and readily available building materials while also serving as a revenue-yielding venture.

On security, Prof. Ekong said his administration has improved the security architecture of the institution including the introduction of forest guards to patrol ungoverned spaces, secure the vast university landmass and ensure the safety of staff, students and property.

The Professor of Economics said the achievements recorded so far were driven by passion, good taste and an unwavering commitment to transforming the university into a world-class institution that will be the pride of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.

He pledged that with his work ethic, support of the university community and cooperation of all stakeholders, the institution will surpass previous records and be ranked among the top five universities in Nigeria by the end of his tenure.

Stakeholders within and outside the university have commended the Vice-Chancellor for his proactive leadership and visible impact within a short period, expressing optimism that the university is on the path to renewed growth and academic excellence.

They noted that if the tempo of infrastructural renewal, administrative reforms and academic innovations is sustained, the University of Uyo will soon become a reference point for effective university administration in the country.
