Stakeholders and political leaders in Esit Eket Local Government Area have unanimously endorsed Dr. Eunice Thomas as their preferred candidate for Eket Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

The endorsement was reached during a high-level consultation meeting held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the residence of the political leader of the area, Elder Benjamin Udobia.

Speaking at the gathering, the Executive Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Council, Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikott, described Dr. Thomas as โ€œGod-sent for a time like this,โ€ expressing strong confidence in her candidature and emphasizing both divine backing and widespread grassroots acceptance.

โ€œDr. Thomas is God-sent for a time like this, and I am confident that the God who has sent her will stand by her till the end,โ€ she said. โ€œFor Esit Eket, Mma, you are safe, welcomed, and fully accepted.โ€

Also speaking, a former member of the House of Representatives and Knight of John Wesley, Barr. Bassey Dan Abia, KJW, noted that true political consensus is reflected in the unity of the people.

The endorsement was sealed through a unanimous voice vote by stakeholders present at the meeting.

โ€œNow that the response from a voice vote to affirm support for Dr. Eunice Thomas, has a resounding โ€˜yes,โ€™ it demonstrates overwhelming acceptance of her candidature.โ€ Abia stated.

Earlier In her speech, Dr. Eunice Thomas expressed gratitude to the people of Esit Eket for their consistent support throughout her political journey, noting that their support had been evident from the outset.

โ€œI am here to say thank you. Since the beginning of this journey, I have enjoyed immense support from Esit Eket,โ€ she said. โ€œI do not need your support, I know I already have it. What I seek now is the support of those who are yet to stand with me.โ€

She further framed her ambition within a spiritual context, expressing confidence in divine guidance and her readiness to deliver impactful representation.

โ€œThis federal constituency is of special interest to God. In this season, God has found me, and through me, He will prosper us in the next three and a half years. I am fully prepared for this responsibility,โ€ she added.

Providing historical and political context, her husband, Hon. Sam Ekpenyong, highlighted the tradition of rotational representation within the constituency, advocating fairness and inclusivity among the constituent local government areas.

โ€œRepresentation in this federal constituency has, over time, reflected a fair spread, leaders such as Eseme Eyibo, Dan Abia, Ekpottai, and Pat Ifon have all served four years,โ€ he noted. โ€œIbeno cannot be an exception, and ensuring inclusivity will not be a problem.โ€

The meeting concluded with prayers from the political leader, Elder Benjamin Udobia, and a priest, Pst. John John, with strong words of intercession, signaling a coordinated political front in support of Dr. Eunice Thomasโ€™ aspiration for the House of Representatives.

Present were the House of Assembly Member, Chairman of Council, Hon. Ikemesit Ikott, Engr. Udobia Udo, Vice Chairman, Elder Eddy Etangnkanga, Elder Benjamin Udobia, Aides to the Governor, the state party representative, all chapter and ward executives of the APC, leaders of wards, etc.
