Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has declared that his anticipated bid for the presidency in 2027 will be his final attempt at leading Nigeria, drawing a defining line under one of the country’s most enduring political ambitions.

The veteran politician made the disclosure during a recent engagement with associates and supporters, where he reflected on his decades-long quest for the nation’s top office.

According to him, the 2027 election represents not just a personal milestone, but a critical turning point for Nigeria’s democratic trajectory.

“This will be my final shot,” Atiku stated, underscoring both his determination and a sense of closure regarding his presidential pursuits.

Over the years, Atiku has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most persistent presidential aspirants, having contested for the office six times across party primaries and general elections.

His political journey spans multiple platforms, including the Social Democratic Party, Action Congress, All Progressives Congress, and the Peoples Democratic Party.

While his appearances on the presidential ballot were most prominent in 2007, 2019, and 2023, he also made significant attempts during party primaries in 1993, 2011, and 2015.

In the 2019 election, he ran as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party but lost to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, while his 2023 bid ended in defeat to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Political analyst, Barrister Uwem Udoku said his latest declaration could reshape opposition dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties and stakeholders begin early strategic calculations.

The announcement is also expected to trigger fresh debates within his political base and across the broader national landscape.

Supporters argue that Atiku’s extensive experience positions him as a capable hand to navigate Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

However, critics maintain that the country may benefit from a new generation of leadership with fresh ideas and perspectives.

Regardless of the outcome of his final bid, many Nigerians are unanimous on one point, the urgent need for leadership that prioritizes national interest, delivers tangible results, and fosters stability and progress.

As momentum gradually builds toward 2027, Atiku’s “final shot” declaration adds a compelling dimension to what is shaping up to be a pivotal election in Nigeria’s democratic history.

But, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Akwa Ibom, Chief Imo Oworiso differ with the optimism of those promoting the former Vice-President as a candidate to beat saying that, Atiku already knows his fate that is why he began to announce his gradual home going in 2027.

According to him, “how would Atiku win when he knows that he has no party to contest talk less of winning the election as his party, ADC is in shambles.

He queried, “has he told you the North just simply finished their turn through the former President Muhammadu Buhari? Adding that, Atiku Abubakar is a joker.
