Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, received the management team of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology (FUATECH), alongside a Ministerial Assessment Team, on a courtesy visit to its Main Campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Welcoming the delegation, AKSU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Otoabasi E. Akpan, described the visit as a significant step toward the smooth take-off of FUATECH. He noted that the assessment team—comprising officials from the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and the National Universities Commission (NUC)—was in the state on a fact-finding mission to the Obio Akpa Campus.

Prof. Akpan provided a detailed overview of the development of the Obio Akpa Campus, highlighting its growth from inception to its current state. He assured the visitors of a seamless transition process for FUATECH and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing adequate facilities to support the new institution’s launch. He also commended the Minister of Education for constituting the assessment team and pledged continued collaboration.

In his remarks, FUATECH Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Essien, expressed appreciation for the warm reception, stating that the visit was aimed at familiarising the assessment team with facilities available at the Obio Akpa Campus. He revealed that FUATECH is set to commence academic activities at the campus in the 2026/2027 academic session.

Also speaking, the Team Lead and Director of Universities at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Kareem Olawale, praised Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his support toward the establishment of FUATECH. He added that the state government, through the Commissioner for Education, had assured the team of adequate infrastructure for a smooth take-off.

Dr. Olawale explained that the visit was to evaluate the readiness of facilities at the Obio Akpa Campus, located in Oruk Anam Local Government Area. He expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness, noting that the campus is well-equipped to begin academic operations.

The visit was attended by management staff of both institutions, directors from the Federal Ministry of Education, representatives of the National Universities Commission, and officials from the Directorate of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol.
