The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has successfully rescued 14 persons abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.

The victims were freed during a coordinated operation driven by intelligence gathering and sustained pressure on criminal elements operating within the maritime corridor. Security operatives intensified surveillance and carried out targeted raids on identified hotspots, leading to the safe recovery of all the victims without any casualties.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the rescued individuals are currently undergoing medical checks and debriefing before being reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers involved in the operation, highlighting the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in tackling security challenges.

He also assured residents and maritime operators of increased security presence along the waterways, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible for the abduction.

The police further urged the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information, warning criminal elements to desist from illegal activities or face decisive action.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
