In a surprise move that has sparked conversation in political circles of Akwa Ibom State, former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Nyong Uko, has officially resigned his appointment as the Honorary Special Adviser on Legislative Affairs to the Governor Umo Eno.

The resignation was made public via a formal letter dated April 20, 2026, which bore the “Received” stamp of the Office of the Governor in Uyo.

Though, reason for his resignation was not immediately known but, it is perceived the decision christened as personal is shifted towards personal aspiration.

In the concise, one-page document, RT. Hon. Uko noted that, his decision to step down stems from a desire to pursue new opportunities and focus on personal “aspirations.”

While the letter did not explicitly detail what those aspirations are, the timing and the weight of his political pedigree suggest a potential move toward a more prominent elective or strategic role.

“Due to evolving circumstances, I find it necessary to step down in order to focus on my aspiration,” the letter read.

Despite his exit from the cabinet, the former speaker maintained a tone of high professional regard for the current administration.

Political implications are that, Aniekan Uko (popularly known as Iboroakam) is widely considered a heavyweight in Akwa Ibom politics.
