ABUJA – The Federal Government has commenced the payment of outstanding 2025 allowances to Nigerian students studying abroad under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and academic success of scholars overseas.

The Federal Ministry of Education disclosed on Wednesday that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had successfully remitted approved funds to Nigerian embassies and foreign missions for immediate disbursement to eligible beneficiaries in partner countries.

In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the released funds represent 50 percent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025, while efforts are ongoing to facilitate payment of the balance.

According to the minister, the funds have already reached the accounts of the affected embassies, which are expected to begin immediate payment to beneficiaries.

He advised affected scholars to monitor their bank accounts, noting that payments would begin reflecting as soon as the embassies conclude necessary processing procedures.

Dr. Alausa stated that the intervention underscores the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the welfare and academic progress of Nigerian students abroad, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He commended the patience and resilience shown by beneficiaries during the delay, assuring that the Federal Government remains determined to ensure that no Nigerian student under government scholarship schemes is abandoned.

The minister further reiterated government’s resolve to meet all legitimate obligations to Nigerian scholars and sustain policies aimed at promoting quality education, student welfare and national development through strategic investment in human capital.

The ministry also assured stakeholders of its continued dedication to the effective implementation of scholarship programmes and support for Nigerian students studying across the globe.
