ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure expires on July 31, 2026.

The appointment, announced in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, signals a new chapter for the nation’s tertiary admissions body as the Federal Government looks to deepen digital reforms and institutional efficiency in the education sector.

Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading experts in computer engineering, digital systems and examination infrastructure.

His emergence also makes him the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.

A distinguished academic at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK.

He also attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

His relationship with JAMB reportedly dates back to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, where he first gained practical exposure to the nation’s admission and examination system, an experience said to have shaped his passion for educational reforms and data-driven institutional processes.

With over 15 years of professional experience spanning technology, governance and public-sector transformation, Aina has advised federal and state governments on digital transition, systems design and operational reforms.

At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering.

He has also consulted for key examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state ministries of education, particularly in the areas of ICT integration, examination security and digital process optimisation.

Professor Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu expressed confidence that, the incoming registrar would leverage his expertise and practical experience to consolidate and surpass the reforms and achievements recorded under the outgoing Registrar, Professor Oloyede, especially in strengthening transparency, credibility and technological innovation within JAMB’s operations.
