Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has terminated the appointments of two of his aides, Mr. Joseph Ikpak, Senior Special Assistant on Support Services, and Mr. Felix Ekuri, Personal Assistant on Neighbourhood Watch.
Their removal, announced on Monday, November 17, 2025, followed an official letter issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Ebong Uwah.
According to the SSG, the action forms part of a broader restructuring initiative aimed at realigning the administration with the operational framework required to advance both the federal Renewed Hope Agenda and the state’s ARISE Agenda.
The letter stated in part; “As part of the ongoing restructuring exercise of this Administration, to align with the machinery of Government towards the success of the Renewed Hope and the ARISE Agenda, His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has approved the disengagement of the following Aides from office; Mr. Joseph Jacob Ikpak, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Support Services), and Mr. Felix Ekuri, Special Assistant to the Governor (Neighbourhood Watch).
“This disengagement takes immediate effect.”
Meanwhile, the APC media network hails Governor’s decisive action, describing it as a firm and timely decision to remove aides whose loyalty was “divided.”
The Director-General of the APC Media Network, Otuekong Iniobong John cited the recent attendance of PDP factional National Convention in Ibadan by Mr. Ikpak and Mr. Ekuri as evidence of political inconsistency, unbecoming of officials serving within the Governor’s office.
According to the Network, “the Governor’s swift action reinforces the integrity and unity of his administration.
“This decisive move shows that political double-dealing will not be tolerated, especially at a time when Akwa Ibom State is consolidating progress under the ARISE Agenda.”
While reaffirming the group’s support for measures that would enhance political cohesion and commitment to the ARISE Agenda, further appeal to the Governor to bolster his internal mechanisms to detect appointees, who might be aligning with the opposition interests in the state to derail the administration’s agenda.
