
UYO – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has recorded a major political milestone, following the successful conduct of its governorship primaries, which produced Hon. Ibanga Akpan Brownson as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The exercise, held at the PDP State Secretariat, Atan Offot, Uyo, was widely described by party stakeholders as peaceful, transparent, and devoid of rancour, further reinforcing the party’s reputation for internal cohesion and democratic stability in the state.
Hon. Brownson emerged through a consensus arrangement endorsed by party leaders and stakeholders across the state and was officially presented as the PDP flagbearer for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The primaries were supervised by the PDP Electoral Committee chaired by Dr. Arthur B. Ekwelem, alongside committee members including Barr. Clement Mue, Engr. Deola Adedokun, Mustapha Alimu, Chinwe L. Nnorom, Dr. Victor I. Epenyoung, and Ndubuisi Eneh.
Also present to observe the exercise were officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), led by elder statesman, Atuekong Emmanuel Ibiok.
Speaking shortly after the presentation of the candidate, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, commended party members for their maturity, discipline, and commitment to unity throughout the process.
He described the consensus arrangement that produced Brownson as a reflection of the collective will of the party and a demonstration of confidence in his leadership capacity.
According to Elder Akpan, the peaceful outcome of the primaries shows that the PDP remains united, focused, and prepared to continue delivering purposeful leadership and sustainable development to the people of Akwa Ibom State.
“The consensus that produced Hon. Ibanga Akpan Brownson reflects the collective will of our party and the confidence reposed in his capacity.
Today, the PDP in Akwa Ibom State has spoken with one voice. We are united and focused,” he stated.
Party stakeholders noted that Brownson’s emergence enjoys broad support across the 31 Local Government Areas of the state, describing it as a strong signal of harmony and solidarity within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP Akwa Ibom State Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to the peace, prosperity, and continued development of the state, assuring citizens that the party remains steadfast in advancing people-oriented governance.
