PDP NEC CRACKS DOWN ON GOVERNORS, EX-OFFICIALS FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS, AS PARTY MOVES TO RESTORE ORDER
The National Acting Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Abdulrahman has launched sweeping disciplinary actions against several high-profile members, including former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel and former National Legal Adviser, Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, as the party intensifies efforts to re-assert internal order ahead of the 2027 elections.
Also affected are former Acting (BOT) Chairman Adolphus Wabara, Chief Olabode George, Senator Ben Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), Governors Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga and Umar Sani.
In a communique issued at the end of Tuesday’s emergency NEC meeting held at the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, the actions were taken to address “irresponsibility” and violations that threatened the party’s stability.
It also ordered former National Vice Chairman (South-East), Chief Ali Odefa, to refund all salaries and allowances collected after his expulsion on December 12, 2024.
The NEC ratified Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South-East) and approved the dissolution of State Executive Committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos and Ekiti, while affirming the Edo State Exco led by Barr. Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor. Caretaker committees are to be constituted immediately to conduct fresh congresses.
NEC further directed all deputies in now-vacant National Working Committee (NWC) positions to assume their roles in acting capacities. It also formally ratified Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman.
In one of its most consequential directives, NEC ordered the party’s legal team to initiate constitutional processes to recover the seats of all elected officials who defected from the PDP, citing Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.
A party-wide reconciliation effort was approved to heal divisions, though NEC emphasized that unity would not come at the expense of discipline. A nationwide membership audit and revalidation exercise will commence ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“NEC acknowledges the anxieties among members but assures the faithful that these decisions aim to stabilise and strengthen the PDP,” the communiqué stated. “The era of indiscipline is over. The PDP will not bow to lawlessness or personal ambition.”
Earlier, BOT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Acting National Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman urged members to remain steadfast, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to overcome its current challenges.
At the 103rd NEC meeting in Abuja, the committee also ratified the expulsion of Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), former BOT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja and others for anti-party activities, including defying court orders and attending an “unauthorized convention” that triggered widespread factionalization and defections.
Reading the communiqué, National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu reaffirmed that, the PDP “draws its legitimacy from strict adherence to its Constitution and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not from impunity.”
The NEC pledged that with discipline, unity and renewed purpose, the PDP will rebuild stronger and restore public confidence ahead of the 2027 elections.
