UYO – The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has announced plans to hold its 138th Inaugural Lecture, with renowned Industrial Sociologist, Professor Aniefiok S. Ukommi, set to deliver a lecture focusing on the welfare and development of Nigerian workers.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the 1,000-Seater TETFund Auditorium, Main Campus, Nwaniba Road, Uyo, is being hosted under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher N. Ekong.
Professor Ukommi, a Professor of Industrial Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Uyo, will speak on the topic: “That It May Be Well With Nigerian Workers: My Contributions to Industrial Sociology.”
The lecture is expected to provide insights into labour relations, workers’ welfare, workplace dynamics and the role of industrial sociology in promoting productivity and social development in Nigeria.
University authorities described the inaugural lecture as part of the institution’s tradition of showcasing scholarly contributions of its professors and promoting intellectual discourse on issues of national importance.
The event is slated to commence at 3:00 p.m., while guests have been advised to be seated by 2:45 p.m. The Registrar and Secretary to Senate, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, is coordinating arrangements for the event.
The lecture is expected to attract academics, policymakers, labour leaders, students and members of the public interested in contemporary issues affecting Nigerian workers and the nation’s labour sector.
