UYO – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication syndicate, and arrested three suspected cultists linked to the unlawful possession and manufacture of weapons in a major operation aimed at curbing violent crime across the state.

The operation, which was intelligence-driven, also led to the recovery of a locally fabricated double-barrel cartridge gun and the uncovering of an illicit arms production network operating within the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives of the Command arrested Miracle Udo, 27, a native of Cross River State residing at Ikot Obio Offong in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, on July 24, 2026.

The police recovered a locally fabricated double-barrel cartridge gun from the suspect at the point of arrest.

During interrogation, Miracle Udo reportedly confessed to possessing the firearm and identified one Edet Okon as the person who supplied the weapon.
Acting on the information, operatives tracked and arrested the alleged supplier.

Further investigations led detectives to Kufre Stephen, 35, a native of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, who was identified as the suspected fabricator of the firearm.

A search conducted during the operation resulted in the recovery of several tools and materials believed to have been used in the illegal production of firearms, confirming the existence of a clandestine gun-manufacturing network.

Police investigations also uncovered the involvement of another suspect, said to be a welder who regularly assisted in the fabrication process.

The suspect is currently at large, while efforts are underway to apprehend him and dismantle the remaining links in the criminal network.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to tackle the proliferation of illegal firearms, cultism and other violent crimes in the state.

He stressed that the police would continue to identify, dismantle and prosecute criminal syndicates responsible for the circulation of illegal weapons and threats to public safety.

The Command also lauded members of the public for providing timely and credible information that contributed to the operational success, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious persons and activities.

The Police Commissioner also assured that, investigations are ongoing and that all those connected to the illegal arms manufacturing ring would be brought to justice.
