BANJUL – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has been honoured with the African Leader in People-Centric Governance Award by Security Watch Africa in recognition of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, sustainable development and the welfare of citizens.
The award was presented during the 19th Security Watch Africa Conference and Awards held at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Banjul, The Gambia, at the weekend.
Governor Eno was among a select group of African leaders, security institutions and organisations recognised for their contributions to peace, security, good governance and socio-economic development across the continent.
The organisers said the award was in acknowledgement of the governor’s people-oriented policies and programmes aimed at improving the quality of life of residents of Akwa Ibom State through strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and human capital development.
Speaking after receiving the award, Governor Eno expressed appreciation to Security Watch Africa for the recognition and dedicated the honour first, to the president of the federal Republic of Nigeria, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the people of Akwa Ibom State, describing the award as a ‘product of intentional team work of his administration’.
Governor Eno, who was represented by his Deputy at the occasion, Senator Akon Eyakenyi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends and ensuring that governance remains focused on the needs and aspirations of the people.
The governor also commended Security Watch Africa for sustaining dialogue and advocacy on issues relating to security, peace-building and development across Africa, noting that effective governance and security are critical to the continent’s progress.
The Security Watch Africa Conference and Awards is regarded as one of the continent’s foremost platforms for recognising excellence in leadership, security management and public service.
The annual event brings together political leaders, security experts, policymakers and development partners from across Africa to deliberate on strategies for enhancing peace, stability and sustainable growth.
Also honoured at the event was the President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, alongside other distinguished personalities and institutions that have made significant contributions to nation-building and regional development.
The latest recognition adds to the growing list of honours received by Governor Eno since assuming office, reflecting increasing national and international acknowledgement of his governance style and development agenda for Akwa Ibom State.
